The Upper Valley Haven is seeking a weekend shelter staff member for our Byrne Family Shelter. The shelter operates 24/7 and accommodates up to 8 families. Shelter staff assist guests and visitors, facilitate daily operations, and ensure the environment is safe, clean, and welcoming. They are able to build positive and supportive relationships are respectful and and accepting of people facing challenges in their lives. Reliability and punctuality are vitally important to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter.

This position provides shelter coverage Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The pay rate is $18 per hour depending on experience.


Critical to the success of this position are: 

  • Proven track record of reliability and punctuality
  • Works well independently and knows when to ask for support
  • Flexible and adapt easily to constantly changing circumstances
  • An ability to use a strengths-based approach to build relationships and solve problems  
  • Works well in crisis situations
  • Must have a valid driver's license and pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
